Memorial Day Weekend 2013

What a fab Memorial Day weekend outside ALL day long and being happy 2 year olds. Cameron would stay outside 24 hours a day if he could and Brody would prefer if I could leave a door open so he can run in and out a million times. Adding a sand table to the equation and a bunch of big kid neighbors playing kick ball and doing cartwheels through the grass to deliberately crack my boys up made for some happy twins. This momma hasn't seen this much sun since pre baby days and is just loving every minute of it. Soaking it all up now knowing that we will be stuck in the hospital soon but this weekend wasn't about any of that. This weekend Brody and Cameron were just like any other little kid running through the backyard in bare feet and splashing around the water with their cups.

Our summer

Cameron eye surgery June 7, Brody tracheal reconstruction July 2. Everything in between and for quite some time after will be recovery and germ free healing for optimal results. Hopefully this last stretch will mean that this time next year we will be in a very different position. It has been a much longer process than we ever could have anticipated but our end results have too exceeded anything we could have imagined.

See you in the OR!

Today was the last time we will see Brody's ENT surgeon until the day of his reconstruction. Today it became real!

As we watched him play in the waiting room of the airway clinic we were dished another reality that we tend to forget when we get wrapped up in our own world... We were reminded that even with all of the obstacles our children face we are so lucky for their physical and neurologic health. Many kids with trachs are not as fortunate as Brody when it comes to other systems being in tact.

So the next month and a half consists of a barrage of labs and tests and other doctor's appointments to prepare for the big day.

So proud of us and our men.

Surgery scheduled!

Brody has a surgery date. If all goes according to plan he will be having his airway reconstruction July 2. Hoping to squeeze in Camerons tenotomy (eye muscle surgery) in before that as Brody's recovery will be our biggest focus after the July date.

Hoping for the happiest of Independence Days for our family.
